Mission

Our mission is twofold: in teaching, to impart the habit and mode of thinking in science and mathematics using the most effective pedagogical methods; in research, to contribute to the scholarship of discovery, integration, application and teaching.

 

Vision

Our vision is to build a renowned school with strong faculty, innovative curricula, promising students, strong links with industry and supportive alumni.

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) at Nanyang Technological University has three divisions: Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, Mathematical Sciences and Physics and Applied Physics, all of which offer undergraduate and graduate programmes.

SPMS recognises that the most exciting sciences and challenging problems of the 21st century will move from the traditional disciplines to the interfaces of these disciplines. With alliances across traditional academic disciplines within and across schools, the School encourages an interdisciplinary culture and hones problem-solving and communication skills.

 

SPMS offers degree programmes in: Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics and Economics, Physics and Applied Physics.

 

At SPMS, students will learn about the business of science and mathematics, as well as science and mathematics for business. We believe, together with many leaders in our society, that an education in science and mathematics, with an emphasis on analytical, quantitative and communication skills, provides a solid foundation for entry into many careers as well as for innovation and enterprise.
